Setlist Set 1 Set 2 Encore Notes: Loving Cup made its Phish debut at this show and was the first tune played on Page's new baby grand. The Wedge and Lifeboy also debuted. Portions of My Friend and Horse featured Trey on acoustic guitar. YEM contained a My Girl tease and the "Water Your Team in a Beehive I'm a Sent You" lyrics. The Amazing Grace encore (also a Phish debut) was performed without amplification. |
This particular show marked the debut of Page's grand piano. From the Phish Biography by Parke Puterbaugh: "Musically, the biggest change was that they could now afford to tote a baby grand piano from gig to gig. It was first wheeled onstage on February 3, 1993, in Portland, Maine, and it made a huge difference in their sound. Page McConnell shone on acoustic piano. Its more naturalistic sound jibed with Trey Anastasio's wood-toned Languedoc guitar. Anastasio himself noted that the group improved as McConnell's gear improved, and it was a 'great leap forward' when the baby grand entered Phish's tour arsenal. McConnell's keyboard armory continued to expand. He brought back the Fender Rhodes on the summer 1993 tour and began adding electronic keyboards to the mix, too."
